A Childhood Memory Triggered a Change

A childhood memory triggered a change for former travel industry executive Sherri Sparks.

Sparks’ special relationship with her grandmother made for a wholesome and comforting lifestyle growing up in Michigan. Among her favorite activities was to cook with her grandmother — including the delicious crumb potatoes.  She is able to cook that same recipe today as her grandmother Rosie typed them out and put them together in a book when Sparks graduated from the University of Michigan.

The book followed her to Dallas in 2000 when she relocated to the Metroplex. The distance gap was made smaller by the book, pages tattered because of its frequent use, and the food that became a reality by following grandmother’s directions. The taste and smell of those meals transported her instantly back to the days of her youth.

However, moving away from her family raised a concern. Who would help her mother, who remained in Michigan, especially as she aged? It gnawed at her for a while until Sparks found the answer looking in the mirror. She would be the person to care for her mother and others through her company Elderly Care Concierge. It was her opportunity to pursue a career change.

It was a win-win-win for Sherri and her family. She was pursuing a career that provided inspiration. Her mother would have the assistance of a dedicated professional focused on helping her enjoy her golden years. And, Sparks’ siblings had peace of mind their loved one was being properly attended. A childhood memory triggered a change that suddenly became quite personal.

In the August edition of Stroll Magazine, Sparks and her company are profiled. You can read more by clicking on this link. As a bonus, Sparks shares the recipe for her grandmother’s crumb potatoes.
